Who We Are

Economists in Public Health

The California Association of Public Health Economists (CAPHE) connects economists and analysts working across local health jurisdictions, state agencies, and research institutions in California.

We apply economic evaluation, cost analysis, and causal inference to public health programs and policy decisions. Our members analyze program budgets, evaluate behavioral drivers and disease incidence, and study policy counterfactuals across California.

Founded in 2024, the California Association of Public Health Economists (CAPHE) serves economists and analysts across California's state and local public health system. Our working group collaborates on open empirical tools, peer review, and applied policy evaluation at caphegroup.org.

Our Approach

How We Work

1

Economic Evaluation

We analyze program costs, behavioral incentives, and counterfactual outcomes alongside health measures to evaluate public health investments.

2

Open Knowledge-Sharing

We emphasize voluntary leadership and peer-based collaboration. Resources developed by working groups are shared openly across the network.

3

Supportive Community

We maintain a welcoming environment for both new and experienced health economists. No question is too basic; no methodology too advanced.

Get Involved

We welcome economists working in public health departments, academic institutions, and research organizations across California. Whether you're new to health economics or a seasoned practitioner, there's a place for you at CAPHE.
